HISTORY OF THE CHURCH

The Carrollton Baptist Temple dates back to 1953 where it had its meager beginning in a store room. The store room was located on East Main Street in downtown Carrollton. Among those worshipping that first service were Irene McAdoo, Kate Totherow, Belle Ledford, Bobbie Ledford, and Myrta Cross.

The church received its corporation papers on June 5, 1954, to operate as a not for profit organization. The church was organized to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to support world-wide missions.

Having met in this store room for three years, it was decided that another building was needed. In 1956 a portion of the current property was purchased and construction began on a 30' x 70' concrete block building. This building met the needs of the church until it began to out-grow this facility. In 1962 the remaining portion of the current seven acres was purchased and ground breaking began for a new auditorium and Sunday School facility. A total of 9000 square feet of building was erected. That building is our current 325 seat auditorium with choir seating for 40. This structure was then dedicated on July 28, 1963.

 Carroll County Christian Academy

Once again the church ventured out to meet the needs of its congregation and other Christian families in the area. After much prayer and consideration the Christian Academy began in 1982 with twenty-two students. Today the academy has nearly 120 students. The day school has grades K-4 through high school. The A Beka curriculum is used throughout the academic program as well as Saxon Math curriculum for the high school.

 More Expansion

Because of the growing need for space in the Sunday School and the Academy, the Nehemiah Project was instituted to fund a new multi-purpose building. This new addition to the Baptist Temple houses classrooms, kitchen, shower facilities, and gymnasium.

 Missions

Missions is the very heart beat of God. Since the beginning, world missions has been an important part of this church ministry. We currently support over 40 missionaries on 21 foreign fields, home missionaries, and other church-planting ministries. We have seen the blessings of God upon the church because of the missionary outreach ministry.
